MDCAT 2026 Registration — Dates, Fee, Documents & Complete Guide

Disclaimer Dates and fee shown in this article are based on previous years' patterns and publicly available information. Always check the official PMC website (pmdc.pk) for confirmed 2026 information.

Introduction to MDCAT 2026

The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is the single most important exam for every student aspiring to study medicine or dentistry in Pakistan. Conducted by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), this national-level entrance test is mandatory for admission to all public and private medical and dental colleges across the country. Whether you are aiming for King Edward Medical University, Aga Khan University, or any other institution, your MDCAT score is the gateway.

Every year, over 200,000 students sit for the MDCAT, competing for a limited number of seats in MBBS and BDS programmes. The competition is intense, and the process begins long before the actual test day. Understanding the registration procedure, gathering the right documents, and meeting every deadline is just as critical as your exam preparation. A single missed deadline or an incomplete application can cost you an entire year.

For 2026, PMC is expected to follow a similar pattern to previous years, with online registration through their official portal, a standardized fee structure, and test centres spread across all provinces. This guide covers everything from registration dates and eligibility requirements to exam day rules and post-result procedures, so you can focus on what matters most: preparing to score high.

If you have not already started your preparation, now is the time. Our free practice tests with 2500+ MCQs can help you build the foundation you need while you handle the administrative side of things.

Important Dates for MDCAT 2026 (Expected)

PMC typically announces the official MDCAT schedule between June and July each year. Based on the patterns observed from 2021 through 2025, here are the expected dates for MDCAT 2026:

Event Expected Date / Period
Official Schedule Announcement June - July 2026
Registration Portal Opens Mid-July to Early August 2026
Last Date for Registration Late August 2026
Admit Card / Roll Number Slip Download Early September 2026
MDCAT Test Date(s) Mid-September to Mid-October 2026
Result Announcement Late October to November 2026
Merit Lists (Province-wise) November - December 2026
Important Note Since 2022, PMC has conducted the MDCAT over multiple days rather than a single sitting to accommodate the large number of candidates. Expect the test to be held across several dates in September-October 2026. Your specific test date will be mentioned on your admit card.

We strongly recommend bookmarking the official PMC website and checking it regularly starting from June 2026. You can also follow our blog for timely updates as soon as dates are confirmed.

Eligibility Criteria for MDCAT 2026

Before you begin the registration process, make sure you meet all the eligibility requirements. PMC has clearly defined criteria, and failing to meet even one condition can result in your application being rejected.

Educational Qualification

  • FSc Pre-Medical (or equivalent): You must have completed or be appearing in FSc (Intermediate) with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as your major subjects. Students who have taken A-Levels, IB, or any foreign equivalent qualification are also eligible, provided they get an equivalence certificate from IBCC (Inter Board Committee of Chairmen).
  • Minimum Marks: You need at least 65% marks in FSc or the equivalent examination. This is the PMC-mandated minimum. Some provinces or specific institutions may require higher percentages for admission, but 65% is the baseline to be eligible for the test itself.
  • Appearing Candidates: Students who are awaiting their FSc results (i.e., appearing in the 2026 FSc examination) can also register for MDCAT provisionally. However, they must submit their final result before the admission process closes.

Age Limit

As per PMC regulations, there is no upper age limit for appearing in the MDCAT. However, individual universities or provincial admission authorities may have their own age-related policies. In general, most students appearing are between 17 and 25 years of age. If you are a repeat candidate from a previous year, you are fully eligible to re-appear.

Nationality and Domicile

  • Pakistani nationals and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) residents are eligible.
  • Dual nationals can appear, but admission may be subject to specific seat categories (foreign/self-finance seats).
  • Domicile certificate is required for province-wise admission. You will compete for seats in the province where your domicile is registered. For example, a Punjab domicile holder will be considered for Punjab medical colleges under the Punjab merit list.

MDCAT 2026 Registration Process — Step by Step

The entire MDCAT registration is conducted online through the PMC portal. Here is the complete process broken down into clear steps:

Step 1: Create Your PMC Account

Visit the PMC official website and navigate to the MDCAT registration section. You will need to create a new account using a valid email address and mobile number. Make sure you use an email you check regularly, as all official communication (including your admit card) will be sent there.

Step 2: Fill in Personal Details

  • Full name (exactly as it appears on your CNIC or B-Form)
  • Father's name
  • Date of birth
  • CNIC number (or B-Form number if under 18)
  • Domicile details
  • Contact information (phone number, email, postal address)

Step 3: Upload Required Documents

You will need to upload scanned copies of your documents. Make sure all scans are clear, legible, and in the format specified by PMC (usually JPEG or PDF, with file size limits).

Step 4: Upload Your Photograph

PMC has strict photo specifications:

  • Recent passport-size photograph (taken within the last 3 months)
  • White or light blue background
  • Face clearly visible — no sunglasses, no heavy filters
  • Hijab is allowed for female candidates, but the face must be fully visible
  • File format: JPEG/JPG, typically under 200KB
  • The photo must match your appearance on test day for identity verification

Step 5: Select Test Centre Preferences

You will be asked to select your preferred test city/centre. PMC sets up centres in major cities across all provinces including Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, and others. Choose a centre that is most convenient for you, but keep in mind that centre allocation is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registering early gives you a better chance of getting your preferred centre.

Step 6: Pay the Registration Fee

After completing your application form, generate the fee challan and pay through one of the available methods (detailed in the fee section below). Your registration is not complete until the fee is paid and verified.

Step 7: Submit and Print Confirmation

Once payment is confirmed, review all your details carefully and submit the application. Download and print the confirmation receipt. Keep it safe — you will need it if there are any discrepancies later.

MDCAT 2026 Fee Structure

The MDCAT registration fee has remained relatively stable over recent years. Based on previous patterns:

Category Expected Fee (PKR)
Standard Registration Fee Rs. 5,000 - 6,000
Late Registration (if applicable) Rs. 8,000 - 10,000

Payment methods typically accepted by PMC include:

  • Bank challan: Generated from the PMC portal, payable at designated bank branches (usually HBL, UBL, or MCB)
  • Online bank transfer: Through internet banking or mobile banking apps
  • JazzCash / Easypaisa: Mobile wallet payment (availability may vary by year)
  • Debit/Credit card: Some years PMC has accepted card payments through their portal
Tip Pay your fee as early as possible. In previous years, students have faced issues with bank servers being overloaded near the deadline. Do not wait until the last day.

Required Documents Checklist

Gather all these documents before starting your registration. Having everything ready will make the process smooth and error-free:

  • CNIC (Computerized National Identity Card) or B-Form (if under 18 years)
  • FSc / HSSC Mark Sheet or provisional certificate (or A-Level / equivalent result)
  • IBCC Equivalence Certificate (only for A-Level, IB, or foreign qualification holders)
  • Domicile Certificate
  • Passport-size photograph (white/blue background, recent, as per PMC specifications)
  • Matriculation (SSC) certificate and mark sheet
  • Father's / Guardian's CNIC (may be required)
  • Fee payment receipt (bank challan or online transaction proof)
  • Character certificate from your last attended institution (some provinces require this for admission)
  • Hafiz-e-Quran certificate (if applicable, for 20 additional marks in some provinces)

Keep both original documents and photocopies ready. You will need originals for verification during the admission process after the MDCAT result.

Exam Day Guidelines

The MDCAT is a high-stakes, tightly controlled examination. Knowing exactly what to expect on test day will help you stay calm and focused.

What to Bring

  • Original CNIC or B-Form (this is mandatory for identity verification at the gate)
  • Printed admit card / roll number slip
  • Two blue or black ballpoint pens (or as specified in your admit card)
  • A transparent water bottle

What NOT to Bring

  • Mobile phones (strictly prohibited — leave it at home or in the car)
  • Smart watches, earbuds, or any electronic devices
  • Bags, purses, or wallets
  • Calculators
  • Notes, textbooks, or any written material
  • Food items (unless medically required with prior permission)

Reporting Time and Test Duration

  • Reporting time: Typically 1.5 to 2 hours before the exam starts. If your admit card says the exam begins at 10:00 AM, arrive by 8:00 AM at the latest. Gates usually close 30 minutes before the exam — latecomers are not allowed.
  • Test duration: 3 hours and 30 minutes (210 minutes) for 200 MCQs.
  • Format: Computer-based test (CBT) at most centres. Some centres may still use paper-based testing.

Test Centre Rules

  • Biometric verification (fingerprint) will be done before entry.
  • You will be assigned a specific seat — no changing seats.
  • No talking to other candidates during the test.
  • Raise your hand if you need assistance from an invigilator.
  • Any cheating or suspicious activity leads to immediate disqualification and a potential ban from future attempts.

MDCAT 2026 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

Understanding the exam structure is essential for targeted preparation:

Subject Number of MCQs Marks
Biology 68 68
Chemistry 54 54
Physics 54 54
English 18 18
Logical Reasoning 6 6
Total 200 200

Marking scheme: Each correct answer carries 1 mark. There is no negative marking in the current MDCAT format, which means you should attempt every question even if you are unsure. Leaving a question blank guarantees zero marks, while a guess at least gives you a chance.

After the Exam — What Happens Next

Result Announcement

PMC typically announces the MDCAT result within 2 to 4 weeks after the last test date. Results are published on the PMC website, and you can check your score by logging into your PMC account with your CNIC and roll number.

Score Card Download

Once the result is declared, you can download your official MDCAT score card from the PMC portal. This score card is required for the admission process at all medical and dental colleges. Keep multiple printed copies.

Merit Calculation

Your final merit for admission is not based solely on the MDCAT score. It is a weighted combination of three components. The exact weightage varies by province:

Component Punjab Sindh KPK Balochistan
MDCAT Score 50% 50% 50% 50%
FSc Marks 40% 40% 40% 40%
Matric Marks 10% 10% 10% 10%

Use our MDCAT Aggregate Calculator to estimate your merit score based on your Matric, FSc, and expected MDCAT marks.

Province-wise Admission Information

Punjab

Punjab has the largest number of medical colleges in Pakistan, including premier institutions like King Edward Medical University (KEMU), Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC), Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), and Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU). Admissions are managed by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore. Punjab domicile holders compete on the Punjab merit list. The merit formula is 50% MDCAT + 40% FSc + 10% Matric. Additionally, Hafiz-e-Quran candidates receive 20 extra marks added to their FSc score.

Sindh

Sindh admissions are handled by the respective universities and coordinated through provincial authorities. Key institutions include Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU), and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS). Sindh has separate merit lists for urban Sindh and rural Sindh domicile holders. Private medical colleges in Sindh also accept MDCAT scores but may have separate fee structures and admission criteria.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK)

KPK admissions are centrally managed by ETEA (Educational Testing and Evaluation Agency) in coordination with PMC. Leading institutions include Khyber Medical University (KMU) and Ayub Medical College. KPK follows the same 50-40-10 merit formula. Tribal area and FATA candidates may have reserved seats with separate merit lists.

Balochistan

Balochistan has limited medical college seats, with Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences (BUMHS) being the primary institution. Due to fewer seats and applicants, the merit cutoff is generally lower than Punjab or Sindh. Provincial reserved seats and self-finance seats are available. Balochistan domicile holders should check the provincial health department website for specific admission schedules.

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT)

Students with ICT domicile can apply to federal medical institutions. Admissions are handled separately, and seats are limited. The same MDCAT score is used for merit calculation.

Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan

AJK and GB have their own reserved seats in specific medical colleges. Candidates from these regions appear in the same MDCAT but compete on separate merit lists.

Final Tips for MDCAT 2026 Aspirants

The MDCAT registration process is straightforward if you are organized and plan ahead. Here are some final pieces of advice to keep in mind:

  • Register early. Do not wait for the last date. Server issues and payment delays near deadlines have caused problems for students in the past.
  • Double-check every detail. Your name, CNIC number, and other information must exactly match your official documents. Errors can cause verification issues on test day.
  • Prepare your documents in advance. Get your CNIC made (if you do not have one), arrange your domicile, and sort out IBCC equivalence (if applicable) well before registration opens.
  • Start studying now. Do not wait for registration to begin your preparation. The MDCAT 2026 syllabus is already available, and our 3-month study plan can structure your revision effectively.
  • Practice under exam conditions. Use our timed practice tests to simulate the real MDCAT experience and improve your time management.
  • Stay updated. Bookmark the PMC official website and check it regularly from June onwards for official announcements.

Remember, the MDCAT is challenging but absolutely achievable with consistent effort and the right strategy. Thousands of students clear it every year with scores above 180, and with proper preparation, you can be one of them. Good luck with your MDCAT 2026 journey!
